If you’re a fan of the crisp days of autumn, and looking to pick out a new tree for the front or backyard, you have to take the tree's fall leaf color into account and there are few more noteworthy than maple trees.

Maples are best known for their vibrant fall color display but not all are created equal in this particular category. So to help in your search for the perfect fall-colored maple tree, our head horticulturist and I compiled a list of our favorite red-turning varieties.

Summer red is a true red maple tree variety and makes the list not only because of its vibrant fall color but also its equally lovely spring and summer foliage. Each spring, the leaves of this tree emerge burgundy red before settling into their lush green-purple over the summer.
