Hi, I'm Bekki from Centaur Forge. I'm here to talk about some rounding hammers, and what the differences between some of them are.

The first two are the Nordic rounding hammers. One is the 1.5, the other is the 2 pound rounding hammer. One is a regular one, and this [the 2 pound hammer] is a hard-turned. Some of the main differences between these two hammers is if you look on the rounded faces you'll see on this one [the 1.5 pound hammer] that the cut edges are very prominent. This one [the 2 pound hammer], the edges are very much smoothed out, and that's the same on both the rounded side as well as the flat side. Obviously, because of the weight difference as well, you can see that the faces are just a little bit bigger on the 2 pound versus the 1.5 pound, and just a slightly different shape overall.

The next one down the line is the NC Calvary, which the NC stands for North Carolina, the NC Tool Company. Again, you have the very prominant flat side, and then on the other side it is very rounded. NC does buff out all the edges, and the face is shorter compared to the Nordic.

The last one we have in line is the Diamond rounding hammer. As you can see, the edges are still a little bit prominant, but not as buffed out as the NC or the Nordic. The flat side is not as flat as the NC's side, as you will see. Also, the face is a little bit shorter. This is the 1.5 pound hammer.

So, with each one of these, it's all a personal preference as to which one feels comfortable for you. It's not specific, there's not one that's better than another - it's just how you - picking them up, holding them, feeling them, and swinging them to see which one works best for you.

The purpose of a rounding hammer, as we'll demonstrate, is on the rounded side it pushes the metal in all directions when you hit it to the metal. The flat face obviously flattens it by pushing the metal in every direction the same as the rounded side, but it gives you a focal point as to where your pressure is. The flat side is going to spread the metal more evenly.

So for this demonstration, I am going to us the NC Calvary, just so you can see the beveled side versus the flat side, and I want to show you two different ways that the metal gets moved.

We have a nice piece of clay there. I'm going to go with the beveled side first. All right, so as you can see, it moved the metal in all directions. It didn't just focus the metal up or down, it went in all directions. You can see where there is a dish to where my hammer struck.

If I'm using the flat side, again, it pushed the metal in all directions, but you can see there is no dish.
