We were woefully unprepared for
We were woefully unprepared for a treacherous journey across the Atlantic Ocean. We're in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, midway between Bermuda and the Azores with no power. No electronics, no lights and no auto pilot. What frightens us is that we see container ships and tankers passing by almost every day. Help is near but we worry about those large ships and their ability to see us at night. Will they see us? Can we avoid them? Ultimately there is a solution to our problems on board, we just have to identify it and hope it works.
We’re on the second leg of our journey sailing across the Atlantic Ocean from Florida to Spain. We left Bermuda a week ago and have another week of motor sailing to reach Horta in the Azores. The weather has been marginal and the sea state ugly. We’ve mostly been motoring into large swells, slamming the bow into the waves. We’re tired. Our decision making is suffering.
