Tessa has been giving us range on our screens for years. She has starred in the TV hit, 'Westworld', joined the Marvel universe in the 'Thor' movies, she’s done art house movies such as 'The Passing' and was even part of the 'Men in Black' franchise!
And now she’s back for the third instalment of the 'Creed' movies playing Bianca - a musician with progressive hearing loss opposite the boxing champ himself, Adonis Creed AKA Michael B. Jordan - who also directed the film this time around - and the Creed newcomer, Jonathan Majors.
But the 'Creed' movies are not just boxing movies, are they? They pack an emotional punch, too and this episode is no different. There’s tears in this podcast episode as Tessa opens up about her on screen daughter, Mila Davis-Kent who is one of the very first examples of a young black girl being on screen who happens to be deaf, signing on screen.
Tessa also talks powerfully about representation and how 'Hollywood has been so vile in its portrayal of Asians and Asian Americans,' in its history. Tessa also discusses why we all need to be talking more about our mental health, therapy and how to deal with trauma which is a topic she is so passionate about that during the preparation for 'Creed III' Tessa Thompson went to couples therapy with her co-star and on screen husband, Michael B Jordan. YES. REALLY!
