For those who have not had an IVIG treatment I took this video today to show how the process works. The IV Benadryl knocks me out for almost the whole infusion which lasts anywhere from 5-6 hours per day for me. During that time they check my BP and temperature at regular intervals. This treatment is done every month 2 days in a row. IVIG is a blood product pooled from a minimum of 2000 plasma donors. This does not cure Stiff Person Syndrome but helps slow down the progression for some people. Pre-Medicating with Benedryl, Tylenol, and Decadron are common with this procedure to prevent allergic reactions to the infusion. Special thanks to all the plasma donors out there because this medicine saves and improves our life!
