"The subject matter is very special to my heart, as it would be to any woman, and it is an important story that needed to be told. A lot of us weren't aware of the fact that there was a story like Kiranjit's, there was a law that was actually changed or amended in the UK, for a woman who could be tried for a situation like Kiranjit's and she could actually eventually come away, released from a sentence which originally she had been put to life (sentenced to life) imprisonment for ending the life of her husband circumstantially, who was abusing her for the longest period. So on the ground of provocation she actually eventually managed to come away, released, back to her children and eventually get felicitated by the wife of the Prime Minister of the country. That is a huge journey for a woman and the story needed to be told, not just of that one Kiranjit Ahluwalia but for various and many Kiranjits who exist in society, so it was an important story for me."
