If there is no free
If there is no free will, how can I change my destiny? In this discussion, the questioner is struggling with these seemingly contradictory concepts. He feels stuck in the belief that there is no free will and asks Rupert why it feels like he has complete freedom to make choices if free will is an illusion?
Rupert explains that the consciousness that is the essence and nature of your mind is completely free, unconditioned and unqualified. To feel that consciousness is not free is based on an illusion — the belief that consciousness is limited. So although it is true that there is no self at the heart of mind orchestrating the mind’s choices and activities, nevertheless, the mind makes a choice out of its freedom. And its freedom is borrowed from its essence – namely, consciousness — whose nature is freedom.
Thus, you can either feel that you have no free will at all or that you have complete freedom to choose. If you feel you have no free will, that is tantamount to being totally surrendered to God. Or you can take the approach: I am completely free and I want to use my mind in service of truth and love and beauty. To take either of those approaches would be equally valid, true and effective.
