The Vinland sagas (Saga of the Greenlanders, Saga of Eirik the Red) were written in Iceland centuries before Columbus and describe Viking exploration in lands southwest of Greenland. Modern archaeology has confirmed a Norse presence here, but this video addresses the question of whether the sagas would be worthwhile as evidence on their own.
