If you are a beginner at fly tying for trout, Howard Croston's NEW Chenille Worm is a great fly to start with!

When it comes to trout flies, few things are as controversial as a worm pattern. Why's that, you ask? Probably because people are just jealous of all the fish fly anglers catch on them. They really are that good! The reality is, worms are just as legitimate of a natural food source for trout as nymphs, and to ignore them is to miss opportunities. This is especially true if you're fishing near a muddy bank, as worms will come out of the soil there and fish will key in on them. Not only that, but when it rains and the water comes up worms are abundant as well.
