What is Histrionic Personality Disorder?

Histrionic Personality Disorder is characterized by a number of potential symptoms including wanting to be the center of attention, sexually seductive behavior, rapidly shifting and shallow emotions, an effort to gain attention through physical appearance, impressionistic speech pattern, self-dramatizing, exaggerated emotional expressions, theatrical, easily influenced, and believe relationships are more intimate than they really are. Individuals with Histrionic Personality Disorder tend to struggle with relationships and sometimes seek treatment from depressive symptoms from losing relationships. Histrionic Personality Disorder appears to occur more in women than in men. Histrionic Personality Disorder is highly comorbid with Borderline Personality Disorder, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Dependent Personality Disorder, Antisocial Personality Disorder, and depressive disorders, somatic symptom disorder, and conversion disorder.
