Recorded live at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, June 17th 1967.

The Monterey Festival was an important event in the history of The Byrds. David Crosby had begun to assert more control over the musical direction of the group, preferring he, Chris Hillman, and Roger McGuinn write their own material instead of covering other songs, which had initially made The Byrds a world famous act. At Monterey, Crosby would give lengthy speeches between songs on a variety of controversial topics, annoying his bandmates. Furthermore, Crosby elected to fill in for the recently departed Neil Young the following day during Buffalo Springfields performance, further exacerbating tensions. In October, Crosby would be fired from the group, something McGuinn came to regret decades later.
