4- anatomy of joints شرح A joint (articulation) is a union or junction between two or more bones or cartilage.
The study of joints is termed “arthrology”.
Joints are classified according to the nature of tissue between the articulating bones into 3 types:
1. Fibrous Joints
2.Cartilaginous Joints
This type is characterized by having a disc of cartilage between the articulating bone. There are 2 types:
1) Primary cartilaginous joint (Synchondrosis)
2) Secondary cartilaginous joint (Symphysis)
3. Synovial Joints
Classification of synovial joint:
1. According to number of articulating bones:
a. Simple joint
b. Compound joint
c. Complex joint
2. According to number of axes of movement:
a. Uni-axial joint
b. Bi-axial joint
c. Multi-axial joint
