The cheetahs were in this area before the keeper let them loose to a chase a lure down a 180 metre long paddock, generally in under 13 seconds. The cheetah chase is designed to simulate a hunt and extends their natural behaviour. Unlike other cats, cheetah's claws are non--retractable and act like spikes on running shoes to give them traction in the chase.
