After suffering from a debilitating lung disease called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, Diane Williams received a life-saving lung transplant at Loyola Medicine. In a series of interviews beginning two weeks after her transplant and continuing for a year and a half, Ms. Williams describes what it’s like to undergo a lung transplant. She discusses the recovery from major surgery, the extensive pulmonary rehab, the numerous medications and their side effects, the tremendous support she received from Loyola’s lung transplant team, the emotional ups and downs and the miracle of being able to breathe freely again. Daniel Dilling, MD, medical director of lung transplantation, provides an overview of the lung transplant process.
