We are a little bit off-topic (because not on the bus) but still exactly in our field: really understand automotive  technology.

Every now and then, a youngtimer confronts its owner with defects in lifetime components (components whose replacement is not foreseen within the vehicle's lifetime).
The fact that it is not foreseen does not mean that it is impossible - usually it is just a lot of effort.

The subject of this video is the metal tank from a BMW e38 728i, owned by my buddy Flo. Since these fuel tanks start leaking systematically, almost every fan of the e38 series is confronted with this problem sooner or later. As an original replacement, the tank currently costs 1614 € (in germany), the repair includes the disassembly of the rear seat, exhaust system, drive shaft, as well as various inaccessible hose connections on the top of the tank.

This procedure has already been documented: BMW E38, upgrading the fuel tank to 9...
This made us wonder why no one had gone the extra mile to find out where the tanks were leaking - especially since we can learn from this how to extend the life of a tank.

Here's an animation (unfortunately uncommented) of how the fuel delivery module works, i.e. the urine cup-colored bowl in which the fuel pump sits:
How does a fuel delivery module work?...
