Eric here with Pro-Rebuild back with another video. This time, we showcase our custom Ford EEC-IV ECM/PCM Engine computer tester! This testing rig allows us to test several key circuits inside these failure prone PCMs to both verify condition and prove our repair! This applies to
1991-1995 Ford F-150
1991-1997 Ford F250 and F350 Gasoline only
1992-1996 Ford E150, E250 and E350
1993-1994 Ford Ranger
Many common symptoms of a bad PCM in your vehicle would be:
-Cranks no start
-one dead injector bank
-Fuel pump stuck on
-Won't idle
-Check engine light on but no codes stored.
-Improper reference voltage
There are some other less common failures but we cover as much as possible when testing these.
So you think yours is bad, and you want a new one, what do you need to know before you buy?
As mentioned in the video, the part number is paramount! This part number identifies both the year and model, along with the engine, transmission and calibration. The part number is found on the white tag on the connector and will look something like "F4TF-12A650-PB".
If your vehicle has an aftermarket remanufactured pcm, theres a good chance the part number will be missing from the pcm. Sometimes, you will find the 4-digit strategy code on a sticker on the door jamb, or on the cowl depending on your vehicle. If none of this information is present, please contact us and we'll try to narrow down your search.
Many of these are VERY hard to find, and we are often out. In some cases, it is possible to repair yours.
A multimeter or a volt meter will get you very far in diagnosing a bad pcm. Hope this video helps and if you're looking to purchase, we can be reached at:
