Last spring I was lucky to film a great tit chick leaving the nest. This baby was the last of the siblings to remain in the nesting cavity in an apple tree in the middle of an old orchard. The adult birds kept feeding it but one moment it decided that it was time to explore the world for the first time. It perched itself on the edge of the nest calling to its parents. Its loud voice attracted the mother who seemed quite surprised at the loud little rascal outside of the cavity. In the end the hatchling left the tree, hid in the grass and let the parents feed it there before it could fly properly.
