The oral surface of soft palate is lined by the stratified squamous nonkeratinized epithelium. Beneath the epithelium is the lamina propria, which contains numerous mucous glands, whose delivere their product into oral cavity via short straight ducts. The skeletal muscle fibres form the core of soft palate. Secondary nasal surface is covered by the pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium with goblet cells. Lamina propria on this side contains mixed seromucous glands.
Stained: modified green trichrome (collagen tissue is green, muscle tissue is red, elastic fibres and nuclei of cells are black)
