The pharyngeal arches develops by fourth week of embryonic life .The arches are five pairs in number. The arches are separated from the outside by the pharyngeal clefts and from the inside by the pharyngeal pouches. Together the pharyngeal arches, pharyngeal clefts and pharyngeal pouches makes up the Pharyngeal Arch System, and each one of the constituent of the pharyngeal arch System will give rise to different structures of the head and neck. Each pharyngeal arch at its central core is provided with an artery, a nerve and a cartilage.
