Music: Carl J. Nygard, Jr.
Text: John 3:16
Orchestration: Nathan Hofheins

One of the central messages of Christianity is summarized in the powerful but simple words of John 3:16, a scripture that has inspired numerous hymns and sacred compositions over the centuries. One of the most moving and evocative settings of this scriptural passage is a 1987 chorus by the Pennsylvania composer Carl J. Nygard, Jr.  In its fluid rhythms and affecting harmonies, Nygard’s setting of “God So Loved the World” expresses both reverence for Christ’s sacrifice and humble gratitude for the peace it offers.  This orchestration for strings and harp was prepared by Nathan Hofheins especially for this recording.

(Lyrics)
God so loved the world that He gave His only Son.
God so loved the world that everyone who would believe
In His only Son shall have everlasting life.
For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world,
But God so loved the world that through His Son the world might be saved.
God so loved the world that He gave His only Son
That all who would believe in Him would have everlasting life.
