One of the most moving and evocative settings of this scriptural passage is a 1987 chorus by the Pennsylvania composer Carl J. Nygard, Jr. In its fluid rhythms and affecting harmonies, Nygard’s setting of “God So Loved the World” expresses both reverence for Christ’s sacrifice and humble gratitude for the peace it offers. This orchestration for strings and harp was prepared by Nathan Hofheins especially for this recording.
