Today we bring you a tourist guide to the destinations Omišalj and Njivice that adorn the Croatian island of Krk in the Adriatic Sea.
Omišalj is a coastal municipality in the northwest of the island of Krk in Croatia. The municipality also includes the nearby village of Njivice.
After crossing the Krk bridge and arriving on one of the most special
Croatian islands, Island Krk, Omišalj is the first island town that will greet you. The historic city center of Omišalj is located on an 85-meter high cliff with a unique sea view. Klančina street takes us directly to the old town of this beautiful city. The northwestern side of the island of Krk is dominated by the almost three-kilometer-long Sepen Bay. Near Omišalj there are beautiful beaches where you will be amazed by the crystal clear Adriatic Sea. If you are on Krk for the first time, it is worth visiting the Mirina Archaeological Park. It is located in Omišalj on the island of Krk, right next to the sea and reveals the remains of an early Christian basilica and the Roman town of Fulfinum. Not far from it, there is the beach Pesja with crystal clear sea, pine forest and sand.
Njivice, not far from Omišalj, has always been part of the Omišalj castle, and today the Municipality of Omišalj. Probably this place was inhabited in ancient times. They are first mentioned in written sources in 1474 in the grant of Prince John the Seventh Frankopan. For the past centuries, it was a small Krk village whose inhabitants were mainly engaged in fishing, olive growing and animal husbandry, as well as forest exploitation. Houses along the coast, boats and fishing nets, "cassettes" full of fish, have been a recognizable image of Njivice for centuries. Today, Njivice is a tourist center with modern accommodation facilities, dominated by hotels, and a camp protected by the shade of deciduous trees. Njivice is a great place for a family vacation on the island of Krk. The beautiful beaches of Krka will delight you.
