In this video we look at the CRISPR gene editing tool. Since its invention CRISPR Cas 9 it can do a lot more today.
CRISPR borrowed its mechanisms from bacteria’s natural defense against viruses. You can imagine CRISPR as tiny scissors letting us edit our genes by cutting unwanted segments and replacing the problematic DNA with healthy bits. We learn how CRISPR has been used recently in making designer babies and treating diseases like Sickle Cell – but as always with such breakthroughs, there’s a catch.
We look at costs, accessibility, and ethical concerns of using CRISPR. As this gene editing tool continues changing our world, and us, quite literally, we need to start paying more attention to its responsible use.
