In the latest update for the ASIAir, ZWO included a beta feature called "All Sky Polar Alignment".  This new technique allows you to aim the telescope up towards the southern sky, rather than towards Polaris.  The ASIAir will then take 3 photos, slewing about 15 degrees between each frame.  Once the software identifies how the stars have rotated between the three images, it will give you the total Polar Alignment Error.  You can now adjust your azimuth and altitude adjustment screws on the base to get a perfect polar alignment.

Based on my tests, the new All Sky Polar Alignment procedure is quite accurate, showing only a few arc-minutes of error when compared with the traditional polar alignment process.

To be clear, the mount still needs to be pointed up towards Polaris to start.  If you can't see Polaris, then just guess.  As long as the mount is roughly pointed up towards Polaris, you should have no trouble using the new feature.

If you find yourself in a situation where you cannot see Polaris, or the Northern sky very well, then this could be the perfect solution.

Alternatively, if you live near the equator and have relied on doing a Drift Alignment, then this new All Sky Align may make your night a lot easier!
