বাংলাদেশ তো বটেই; বিশ্বের একমাত্র ভূ-গর্ভস্থ কঠিন শিলার খনিটি উত্তরের জেলা দিনাজপুরে। দেশ স্বাধীনের পর ১৯৭৪ সালে এখানে কঠিন শিলার বিপুল মজুদের তথ্য উঠে আসে ভূ-তাত্ত্বিক জরিপ অধিদপ্তরের সমীক্ষায়।
