Video tutorial on how to do the 2-color Honeycomb Brioche Stitch (advanced version; level: advanced beginner or intermediate), knit in the flat (traditional pattern).

This pattern is knit with double-pointed needles (or can use circular needles too). Designate one of the colors as the main color (MC) and the other as the contrasting color (CC) and follow the pattern below.

Abbreviations: BRK=brioche knit; BRP=brioche purl; CC=contrasting color; DPN=double-pointed needles; K=knit; MC=main color; P=purl; sl=slip the stitch purlwise; YF=yarn forward.

Cast on an odd number of stitches with MC.
Set-up row (with MC): *K1, YF, sl1. Repeat from * until last stitch, then K1 (only do this row once). Turn work.

Row 1 (with CC): Sl1, *K the paired stitch and slip the looped (yarned over) stitch (of the brioche stitch), K1.  Repeat from * until 2 last stitches, then K paired stitch and slip the looped (yarned over) stitch in the brioche stitch, then sl1. Do not turn work. Slide the stitches to the other end of the DPN and begin Row 2 (with MC).

Row 2 (with MC): K1, *BRP, sl1, YO. Repeat from * until last 2 stitches, then BRP, K1. Turn work and begin Row 3 (with CC).

Row 3 (with CC): Sl1, *P1, sl the looped (yarned over) stitch and P the paired stitch (of the brioche stitch). Repeat from * until last 2 stitches, then P1, sl1. Do not turn work. Slide the stitches to the other end of the DPN and begin Row 4 (with MC).

Row 4 (with MC): K1, *YF, sl1, BRK. Repeat from * until last 2 stitches, then YF, sl1, K1.
[NOTE: in video, on second to last stitch, I incorrectly say to take yarn back before knitting last st. Actually, you need to slip that st with yarn in front, then knit the last st. I will be re-posting a corrected video shortly ☺].

Repeat these 4 rows in this same color sequence for the pattern.

When ending the project (if scarf, cowl, shawl, etc), end on Row 4 (so you end up in the MC) and then turn work, knit all stitches in MC, and then regular bind off with the MC (consider the brioche stitch as a single stitch when doing the knit row and when binding off).

Note: The pattern knits up a thick fabric. If you wish to knit a wrap or a shawl with this pattern, consider using a lighter weight yarn (fingering weigh or a light worsted weight) to provide a fabric with a nice drape.

For the scarf shown in the video, I used US size 8 (5 mm) DPNs, 1 skein each of Red Hear Soft® 100% acrylic yarn (5 oz, 141 g/skein; medium-weight [4]) in Rose Blush (MC) and in Berry color (CC). My gauge was 9 stitches in pattern=~2.5 inches. I cast on 29 stitches and my scarf measures just under 8 inches in width and is 72 inches in length.
