Seven years ago, Baby AJ got his first eye exam. Now AJ is all grown up and is heading into first grade. But first, he's getting his back-to-school eye exam with Dr. K.

According to the American Optometric Association, children should receive an eye exam at 6 months, 3 years, before first grade and every two years thereafter.

Here's what Dr. K is checking for in the video:
• Visual acuity: seeing clearly at various distances.
• Eye focusing: maintaining clear vision as distance changes.
• Eye tracking: keeping eyes on a moving target.
• Eye teaming: using both eyes together.
• Eye-hand coordination: using visual information to move hands.
• Visual perception: organizing material into letters, words, and ideas as well as understanding and remembering what is read.

In the end, AJ needed glasses to address nearsightedness. He got durable frames and special lenses to reduce digital eye strain.
