From Booze to Bliss: Softening the Edge After Going 3-6 Months Alcohol Free

In this episode, I go into detail about how I was able to soften my edge in months 3-6 of being alcohol free. In my past, I had an "edge." If somebody said the slightest thing that would upset me, I would respond very unproportional to the situation. I would "rise to their occasion" every time. I'd meet it with my own baggage.

I carried this edge around with my most of my life, certainly my entire adult life, and definitely as a drinker. It wasn't until I was sober for some time that I was able to really soften that edge, on my own, without going back to my old drinking ways.

These steps were as follows:
1. Stayed 100% alcohol free.
2. Allowed myself to heal physically.
3. Got over the BIG urges to drink.
4. Cucumber Story!
5. Came to terms with my fears.
6. I started to see that I didn't need alcohol or any other substance to take the "edge" off.

Once I got to number 4 and made that STUPID mistake, the rest was easier. I came to terms with the fact that I could be a nice person at all times and that I didn't need to lash out in order to feel better. What a relief and a blessing that was!!

I felt uncomfortable being nice at times, like it was cheesy. Especially, that first few months after the cucumber incident and into my first year of sobriety. But, as time went on, it became the norm. What a blessing it has been!!

So many people who use alcohol and drugs use the excuse that it "takes the edge off." But, I had found that as time went on, there were so many better options to take that edge off. And, not only did I feel better quickly, it didn't leave me feeling bad and in an endless cycle of addiction. I hope these stories and secrets to my sobriety success help you!!
