I’m Camille, singer & voice teacher with 30 day singer, and this is How To Sing - Part 2: Speaking On Pitch.
Now that you’re matching one pitch at a time, let’s learn some exercises to practice speaking on pitch. Because we’re using our speaking voice, the range will be limited, and we won’t take any exercise too high.
First exercise is a 12321 pattern on the word GO. Let’s learn one more pattern on the word NO. Notice there’s a greater distance between these pitches. Sing first 12345. Now sing 135. You’ve got it! Now sing that 135 pattern on NO.
While it may not feel like it, this is the foundation of singing! Sustain these pitches, add a little vibrato, and we’re really singing.
In the next lesson of this series, we’ll work on pairing breath with sound, so that our abdominal muscles help us with breath control and our throat can stay relaxed.
