Episode 5, Season 39 of Texas Parks & Wildlife, a weekly PBS series about the great outdoors. The San Antonio Zoo raises Texas horned lizards in a bold effort to restore them to the landscape. The Cibolo Nature Center, once a neglected dump, is now a beautiful park preserving the Cibolo Creek watershed. Cooper Lake State Park in northeastern Texas offers shady campsites and cabins, a large lake, and plenty of fishing.

Horned Lizard Homecoming - 1:20
The San Antonio Zoo breeds threatened Texas horned lizards with the hope of restoring them to landscapes that may once again support them. See some captive lizards take their first steps of freedom in this bold experiment.

Lone Star Land Steward: Cibolo Nature Center - 10:53
Cibolo Nature Center offers miles of trails through an array of ecosystems while helping preserve the important Cibolo Creek watershed. Once a neglected dump it’s now an open park that gives folks a natural escape and a place to recharge.

Nurture The Nueces - 13:52
Several species of colonial water birds are on the decline in Texas and now work is underway to help them. In Nueces Bay, biologists are working to save eroding bird nesting islands.

Cooper Lake - 18:33
Since first opening in the 1990s, Cooper Lake State Park has become an outdoor recreation hotspot in Northeast Texas. Fishing, hiking, swimming and camping are just a few things to do in and around the 20,000-acre lake.
