In this video I’m showing you a service by Router-Mods.co.uk which modifies the 5G TS9 ports on a ZTE MC801A to SMA sockets. This is the same 5G cellular wireless broadband router that Three.co.uk supply.
The reason why I had the two port SMA modification done to my Three ZTE 5G router was because 3 three.co.uk who sent me the router as part of my 5G broadband cellular mobile wireless service, wouldn’t not fix or replace the router. This was in spite of the fact that I did not damage the TS9 ports on my Three 5G router through any misuse.
This equated to very bad customer service and support from Three.co.uk and terrible after-service.
The simple fact is that the TS9 sockets are too fragile and not fit for the use they are designed for and are almost guaranteed to fail and snap off with the slightest of pressure applied to them, which is unavoidable when connecting external antennas to the TS9 ports.
Also, the weight of the cables attached to the TS9 sockets from a 5G antenna, are also likely to damage or snap off the TS9 sockets. This is because the TS9 sockets are only soldered to the router’s motherboard and have no practical strain relief.
As Three refused to honour my warranty, even though I was only into the first three months of a 24 month contract. And this was after I had explained to them that with the broken TS9 ports the router was now only capable of picking up a 4G signal with its internal antennas and not give me the 5G service that I was paying for. I had no option but to get the router fixed and this is how I come across www.Router-Mods.co.uk
Although this modification was to fix the problem of the broken TS9 sockets on my particular Three ZTE router. This modification of the TS9 sockets to SMA sockets is almost a must for anyone wanting to use their Three ZTE router with an external 5G antenna anyway. Before you run the risk of the TS9 sockets being damaged due to no fault of your own.
The reason why, is because the SMA ports are connected directly to the case of the router and not the motherboard. Which offers excellent strain relief for the SMA ports and the cables from any connected external antenna.
If you have any 4G router or 5G router that uses TS9 sockets, you may want to check out www.Router-Mods.co.uk as they offer similar modifications for many other 4G and 5G routers. They also offer full modifications as well and I will be testing a fully modified ZTE router soon with the 8 port SMA modification by Router-Mods.
