Boating through Vietnam's incredible Dark Cave!︱Cross Training Adventure

http://vietnammotorbiketours.com It's day 4 on the top Gear tour with Vietnam Motorbike Tours, 10 days twisty mountain roads exploring this incredible country and today we see the Dark Cave in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park! After three days of great riding we have a day off to let our butt cheeks recover in this beautiful spot by the river. But no rest for the wicked and Vietnam Motorbike Tours as we take a boat trip through Vietnam's world famous Dark Cave. Yet another buffet breakfast here in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.
Life jackets on. Destination? Phong Nha cave, or the Dark Cave. Details? It's almost 8km long, has 14 grottoes and a 14km long underground river passes through it. Along the way we get to see how the local residents live and work around here. The beautiful landscape around here is due to all the limestone. Rainwater picks up carbon dioxide from the air in the Dark Cave and it becomes acidic as it goes through the soil. This then dissolves the limestone, forming this unique landscape and also some incredible cave systems. Apologies in advance but since we aren't riding this seems like a documentary so it's time to go a bit Attenborough-ish with Vietnam Motorbike Tours.
Duck your heads, it's the incredible Phong Nha cave. These stalactites at the entrance resemble teeth, and inspired the name as Phong Nha means wind and teeth. This cave system features underground passageways and river caves filled with inspiring stalactites and stalagmites. Beautiful rock formations bear intriguing names such as the kneeling elephant, lion, unicorn and the Buddha. Over hundreds and thousands of years the slowly dissolving limestone has formed fascinating patterns... it's hard to believe these aren't some type of man made artforms in Phong Nha cave. Vietnam Motorbike Tours can only go so far by boat before we disembark on a sandy beach then slowly walk through this natural cathedral. Thanks for that David. Life jackets on, time to head back. A big thumbs up to the local crew here. All the caves around here like Phong Nha cave are a big tourist attraction but they are working hard to keep the area as natural as possible and restrict tourist development here. The Dark Cave? great way to spend a day off the Vietnam Motorbike Tours bikes and tomorrow we'll be back in the saddle again. Can't wait.
