Of Big Cats and Tigers | Gargi Rawat and Arefa Tehsin in conversation | Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Series Jaipur Literature Festival 2024

The magnificent big cats of the jungle ecosystem, such as the great Bengal Tiger, have inspired writers of both fiction and nonfiction for generations.  News anchor and environment reporter Gargi Rawat’s recent book, Tiger Season, is a fictional account of an environmental journalist's tryst with tiger conservation, love, and the great outdoors. Writer, novelist and nature activist Arefa Tehsin was appointed the Honorary Wildlife Warden of Udaipur district by the government of Rajasthan and has pursued nature conservation through her books and articles. Together, they discuss the mystique of tiger tales and the story of conservation efforts in Rajasthan.

Gargi Rawat is a senior news anchor and environment reporter who has worked with NDTV 24X7 for the last two decades. For many years, she has been a regular face on the channel and has filmed several documentaries and environment- related programmes. She worked on  the first-ever news show on wildlife in India, Born Wild, and anchored its Hindi version, Safari India, for the Hindi channel NDTV India. Rawat has also been editorial head for some of the best-known environmental campaigns carried out by NDTV, including ‘The Greenathon’, ‘Save Our Tigers’, and the ‘Banega Swachh India Campaign’. She received widespread acclaim for her award-winning documentary series on the state of the river Ganga. She has just released her first book Tiger Season, a work of fiction, which has themes of tiger conservation and environmental concerns.

Arefa Tehsin’s recent novel is The Witch in the Peepul Tree. She is the author of several books on wildlife and environment and also pens social narratives and travel experiences. Her book Wild in the Backyard was shortlisted for The Hindu Young World-Goodbooks Award 2017. Her picture book The Elephant Bird was read at 3200+ locations in India on the International Literacy Day, 2016, and has been translated in more than 40 languages. She was also the Honorary Wildlife Warden of Udaipur.
