How to do Shiva puja
How to do Shiva puja on Shivaratri, Shravan month and daily. Lord Shiva puja vidhi steps are :
1. Meditation of Lord Shiva and calling Lord Shiva to place of worship
2. Welcome Lord Shiva by offering flowers to him
3. Sankalp : Take water in your right hand and recite your wish or objective of worship of Lord Shiva and drop the water on ground or in a bowl.
4. Aasan (offering seat): Offer seat to Lord Shiva by placing a flower on Shiva Linga with reciting mantra "OM Pashupataye Namah" ("ॐ पशुपतये नमः") only once.
5. Panchopchar Poojan : Worship Lord Shiva with five things, light the lamp, offer inscense stick, offer water and decorate Shiva linga with ashtagandha, Offer Bilva leaves and flower garland, offer fruits and sweets.
Note : According to Shiva Puran, sweets, fruits etc. offered aside Shiva linga can only be taken as prasad by devotee. When you offer Sweets, fruits etc. on Shiva Linga, only Chand (A Gana of Lord Shiva) has the right to take it. Therefore you can not take it or distribute it as a prasad.
6. Shiva Mantra : Recite Shiva mantra "OM Namah Shivaya" ("ॐ नमः शिवाय") 108 times. You can use rosary of Rudraksha to count Shiva mantra.
7. Shiva mantra samarpan : Offer recited Shiva mantra in the lotus feet of Lord shiva.
8. Visarjan : Pray Lord Shiva to go to the mount Kailash where Goddess Parvati is situated.
