In the video Dr. Strauss discusses the progression of scoliosis with aging, affirming that the condition typically does worsen over time, albeit at varying rates depending on the individual’s age. For young patients, scoliosis can progress at a rate of up to 20 degrees per year until they reach skeletal maturity, after which the rate of progression reduces to about 0.5 to 1 degree per year until age 40. From 40 to 60 years of age, it might progress 1 to 2 degrees per year and increases to 2 to 4 degrees per year for individuals over 60. He also addresses adult scoliosis, particularly the degenerative type that generally commences after age 50, and progresses approximately 2 to 4 degrees per year.
