Vitrectomy eye surgery to remove vitreous opacification or floaters.

The procedure is commonly known as FOV, or floater only vitrectomy, but it's a slight misnomer because the vitrectomy is performed the same way regardless of the indication, or reason for surgery; diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, macular pucker, macular hole, etc.

25 gauge 3 port vitrectomy, as shown here, is probably state of the art these days.  A 3 port system means that 3 "holes" or entry ports are made in the eye.  Similar to arthroscopy and laparoscopic surgery, these are "closed system" operation.s

25 gauge instrumentation is so thin we no longer require stitches to close the eye as the entry wounds are self sealing.  This translates to tremendous comfort after the operation, quicker healing and fewer visits to the office!

On occasion, to help me view the vitreous, I inject a green or blue dye into the eye to help me see the remaining gel-like substance.
