Compost is a critical component of any good homestead - taking animal and yard waste and turning it into rich soil full of nutrients to put back into the soil. This is key in a permaculture system. But do you really want to be turning your compost pile weekly? Do you have the money for all the fancy and way-too-small compost bins? We didn't. So aerating was the key for us!
