Assalamualaikum to all, hope you all are well. Today I have brought you the full chart of court structure or you can say Organogram/Hierarchy of Courts in Bangladesh. This is most important for all of us specially law students, advocates. From this chart you will learn the step by step of the courts. As I focus every point in short manner to pick the main point.
As we all know, there are two divisions of the courts of Bangladesh.
A. Supreme Court of Bangladesh
B. Subordinate Court (also known as, District Courts or Lower Courts)
A. The Supreme Court of Bangladesh: It consists of two divisions, the High Court Division and the Appellate Division.
The Appellate Division: The court is empowered by two sources. 1. The Constitution of the people’s republic of Bangladesh and 2. By statutory laws.
The High Court Division: High Court Division consists of Eighty Two Judges. Like the Appellate Division, the High Court Division has empowered by two sources and they have various kinds of jurisdiction.
B. Subordinate Court (also known as, District Courts or Lower Courts): The subordinate court has various types of jurisdiction and classifications so it is quite impossible to mention them all but here is some useful information that will help to get an idea of the scope of subordinate courts.
Civil Courts: Five civil courts exist in this hierarchy-
1. The Court of The District Judge
2. The Court of The Additional District Judge
3. The Court of The Joint District Judge
4. The Court of The Senior Assistant Judge
5. The Court of The Assistant Judge
Criminal Courts: Basically, there are two types of criminal courts and some special courts and tribunals. According to section 6 of the CrPC Criminal Courts of Bangladesh are of two kinds.
1. Courts of sessions
2. Courts of Magistrates
Generally, Metropolitan court deals the criminal offenses occur in the metropolitan area. Currently, only Metropolitan Sessions courts are found in Bangladesh. Metropolitan Court doesn't deal with civil cases. Thus Metropolitan courts are of 2 subtypes of session or criminal. Those are:
1. Metropolitan Sessions Courts
2. Metropolitan Magistrates Courts
Special Courts and Tribunals:
1. Administrative Tribunal
2. Administrative Appellate Tribunal
3. Customs Appellate Tribunal
4. Tax Appellate Tribunal
5. Labour Courts
6. Labour Appellate Tribunals
7. International Crimes Tribunal
8. Special Tribunal
9. Cyber Tribunal
10. The Cyber Appellate Tribunal
11. Family Court
12. Small Causes Courts
13. The Conciliation Board
14. The Artha Rin Adalat
15. The Bankruptcy Court
16. Special Tribunal for Share Market Scam
17. The Acid Violation Prevention Tribunal
18. The Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal
19. Money Laundering Court
20. The Juvenile Court
21. The Speedy Trial Tribunal
