Harissa (هريسه) is a delicious Palestinian (Jordanian) cake/dessert that is super easy to make and widely known across the Middle East. It is topped with almonds, baked and then soaked with an lemony sugar syrup.

Syrup ingredients:.
1 cup (300 g) white sugar
1 (250 ml) water
½  lemon juice
Bring it to a boil and simmerl on low heat for 12-14 minutes.

Harissa (semolina cake) Ingredients:
2 cups (400 g) semolina (coarse)
1/2 cup (100 g) melted butter (hot)
Salt to taste
1 tsp baking powder
1 cup + 3-4 tbsp (300 ml) plain yogurt
1/2 cup (100 g) white sugar


1. Preheat oven , brush the baking tray with tahini and set it aside. Baking tray is 22*30 cm.
2. Combine together the semolina, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. Stir in the butter and plain (unflavored) until combined.
3. Transfer the batter to the prepared pan and spread it out evenly. Let it sit for 10 minutes so the baking powder will start to work.
4.     Decorate harissa with almonds. TIP: To remove skin of almonds, cover nuts with just boiled water, let it soak for 30 minutes, after that the skin will be removing easily.
5. Bake on Medium rank until the sides and top are golden brown, about 35-40 minutes.  Broil the cake for a couple minutes to brown the top.
6.  When you pour Sugar Syrup onto the cake, the cake should be hot (right out of the oven) and the syrup should be cool (room temperature), so the Harissa cake fully absorbs the syrup.
