There is mounting pressure on the federal government to grant humanitarian visas to Afghan fighters who trained in Australia.

The group, back in Afghanistan, have received death threats from the Taliban due to their time training at the Royal Military College, Duntroon.

A number of veterans from the Afghanistan operation have raised the plight of about half a dozen Afghan nationals who studied at RMC.

Sky News Chief News Anchor Kieran Gilbert put this to Immigration Minister Alex Hawke, who said the government is “conscious” of the great risk people are facing in Afghanistan.

Mr Hawke said those who trained in Australia are among those expected to apply under the refugee and humanitarian program.

Support for Afghan RMC graduates is something the Labor party also believes should be afforded.

The first evacuation flight out of Kabul was successful - with only 26 on board - while internationally, there have been more than 2,000 diplomats and officials repatriated.
