The Krupp Titan made its debut at the 1950 Paris Motor Show. A 210 horsepower 6-cylinder diesel engine and four-passenger cab made it one of the decade’s most impressive trucks. Kit features a detailed SW 6 six-cylinder diesel engine with Roots blower, a realistic sub-frame and platform, detailed driver’s cab interior fittings, an opening hood, a detailed brake linkage, a removable spare wheel holder, detailed folding tilts, two roof options, seven tires, movable front wheels, assorted chrome parts and decals with Rheinisch-Westfalische haulage company and Baumann freight forwarder markings.

The Titan is a Krupp truck model that was built in Nuremberg from 1950 to 1951 and in Essen from 1951 to 1954 . Until 1951 the vehicle was marketed exclusively as Südwerke Titan , from 1951 until the end of production it was called Krupp-Südwerke Titan . The titanium-based tractor was designated as the S 80 . [3] In the entire production time 976 vehicles were built.

After the Essen Krupp factories were destroyed in an air raid in 1943, Krupp's truck production relocated first to Alsace and then to Franconia in 1944 on the orders of the Nazi regime. Truck production was spread across three locations: Kulmbach, Bamberg and Nuremberg, with final assembly taking place in Nuremberg. The brand name was changed to "Südwerke". When the Titan came onto the market in 1950, it was initially manufactured in Nuremberg, although Krupp relocated production back to Essen from October 1950. Production of the titanium in Nuremberg only ended in March 1951 and was continued in Essen until 1954. In the same year, the Südwerke brand name also disappeared.

The Titan is a two-axle truck with a riveted ladder frame and front and rear rigid axles . The rear axle has twin tires , while the front axle has single tires. Both axles are sprung with two semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The wheels are cast steel spoke wheels with trilex rims of the dimensions 8.5-22 or 8.5-24. The tires are size 12-22 or 12-24. The foot brake is a compressed air brake from WABCO (Westinghouse) that acts on all four wheels with inner-shoe drum brakes . The handbrake for the rear axle is operated with two levers. The steering is a worm steeringwith steering column arranged on the left. [3]

The power is transmitted from the engine to the gearbox via a Fichtel & Sachs LA2 / 50 HG two-disc dry clutch . The transmission is a mechanical six-speed ball-shift transmission of the type ZF AK 6-75S , which is structurally separated from the engine. The drive power comes from the gearbox via a two-part cardan shaft and a hypoid-toothed axle drive and a bevel gear differential to the rear wheels.

The engine is of the Krupp SW 6 , a water-cooled six-cylinder - rows - two-stroke diesel engine with direct injection and Roots-scavenging blower . Because the Allied Control Council banned German manufacturers from building diesel engines with more than 150 hp after the war , it consists of two smaller three-cylinder in-line engine blocks of type SW 3 that work on a common forged crankshaft with eight bearings . [1] include the two engine blocks, the crankcase and cylinder block are made of cast iron , theThe cylinder head with a metal asbestos seal facing the engine block is made of light metal. The engine has replaceable wet liners . Gray cast iron pistons from Mahle with four compression rings and two oil control rings transmit the power to the crankshaft via double-T connecting rods with sliding bearings. The engine's displacement is 8724 cm³ with a cylinder bore of 115 mm and a piston stroke of 140 mm, the output is given as 190 PS (140 kW) (until 1951) and 210 PS (154 kW) (from 1951).

DC- flushed two-stroke engines like the SW 6 do not have inlet valves , but inlet slots and outlet valves in the cylinder head. With SW 6 there are three vertically hanging valves per cylinder, which are operated via a camshaft , tappet , push rods and rocker arm located in the crankcase . The camshaft is driven by the crankshaft via spur gears. The larger amounts of scavenging air required for the gas exchange are provided by an external scavenging air pump, in this case a Roots blower driven by a V-belt, so that as little exhaust gas as possible remains in the cylinder.
