I flushed the snake out of its hole!

An elderly lady called me out to her home, to retrieve a snake that had killed a bird and was in the process of devouring it.
When I arrived, the bird lay dead on the ground, but there was no sign of the snake.
There was a small hole in the sand about half a meter away from the dead bird, and no tracks in the sand to suggest that the snake came into the area or left the area.
The hole must surely be its home....?
