2016 Ford Edge Alternator removal and install (Smax, Galaxy and Kuga)

Hi folks

New job

So out the blue, I started the car up and the steering was hard to turn. Immediately on do this a red warning on the cluster came up ‘Charging fault and  visit workshop’.

First assumption “Alternator”

Bang on, it’s only charging at 10v. Should be 14 plus.

Before I started recording, I checked the cables, all terminals and alternator monitoring fuse. All good

Managed to pick up an alternator that had done about 9k for £150. Could have tried a voltage regulator at £70 but didn’t have time to faff around.

So...

Tools required

Multimeter
Belt tensioner tool kit (£16 on amazon)
15 socket
15mm ring spanner
10mm ring spanner
8mm socket and Ratchet
10mm socket and Racket
Various extensions
Set of screwdrivers
Trim tool (although I used pliers)
Umbrella (🌧)
Magnet for picking up dropped tools 🤪
Gloves (should always use)


Parts used:
Ford Alternator: E1GT-10300-BB 14V 230 AMP

Part it could be but didn’t try
Voltage Regulator: 2621095 (they do advertise these on eBay)

Hope this helps anyone changing one. Dare think what a dealer would charge.

I guess because they put this engine in the Kuga, Smax and Galaxy it could be a similar set up
