Xfer's Serum has been blowing my mind, and to test its abilities, I put it up against the venerable Virus TI hardware synthesizer.
A few people asked how I get my voice to sound the way it does. That's just the way it is! That said, I added some compression, rolled off the lows and added some highs with EQ, and ran it through a bit of saturation. My microphone's a RODE NTK; I have it plugged into a Komplete Audio 6. That's about it!
A few more people asked, "Why saws? They're not a great test of Serum!" - and they'd be 100% right.
Long story short, I've been sitting on my Virus TI Keyboard for a long, long while. When I heard Serum, I freaked out. I had to pit it against the Virus to see if I could finally replace it, or at least, replicate it on the go. Supersaws are by no means a great test of fortitude, but they are a signature Virus sound, and seemed the easiest place to start. Serum does SO MUCH MORE on the wavetable side and you folks owe it to yourself to grab a demo and try it out!
