You get in the car ready to hit the road expecting everything will run smoothly. But, everyone knows road conditions can change on a dime. So, many people wait for the traffic report before they head out the door. As a traffic reporter, I depend on TDOT cameras for highway information. You depend on TDOT to keep lanes of travel open and flowing. How does all that information come together?
TDOT plays a big part in helping you get to your destination safely. When trouble strikes, the bright green trucks are there to help. Ranny Saint, TDOT Incident Response Driver, says,They see us often out here putting gas in cars or changing a tire and they think that's what we're all about but that's only a small portion of what we're about.
Whether it's car trouble or a crash, the response team is usually the first on the scene. They often risk their lives keeping our roads safe. A TDOT driver was struck and killed while on duty in 2011. Saint says, I think all of us come into the job with our eyes open knowing the risk involved and assuming those risks. Our goal is to help the motoring public.
