Land Of My Birth - Eric Donaldson

July 2016 found me back in Jamaica atop Skyline Drive in the same apartment conducting the second phase of Train The Trainers with my colleague Don Perro. We worked alongside the Ministry of Science Energy and Technology conducting Animation Production training for the faculty of 7 post secondary institutions across the Island. The training was hosted at Heart, NCTVET in Gordon Town. I shot a lot of RAW film once again, this time investing in a faster CF card to shoot full 1080P with Magic Lantern. Renting a car this time around gave us much more freedom to move around the island, rather than relying on Taxis. It is with a heavy heart that I leave this Island I love so much. My 2015 video 'My Jamaica' and this video represent a kind of therapy for me. Being in Jamaica around Independence and Emancipation is always special as the festival songs of years past are resurrected on the radio, and a sense of togetherness permeates the air. I stumbled across an old Eric Donaldson festival song that resonated with me 'Land of My Birth' from 1978. Eric Donaldson's solo career saw him win the Festival competition 6 times between 1971 and 1997.
