Episode Fifty-Four: An introduction into a goalkeepers positioning.
Do you find yourself or your goalkeeper hugging their line or won't come out of their box to help their defence?
Allow them to see visually where a comfortable position to take up is.
Split the pitch into 3rds and turn the discussion into a practice session. Allow them to sweep up and distribute the ball back into the opposing half.
Then in turn, use the positioning as shown in the video and check their understanding.
The area around the box can be broken into a shooting drill that see's distance shooting or a disguise that sees a ball passed into the box for the goalkeeper to gather.
I've used this with many goalkeepers to lay the foundations and yes, junior goalkeepers play on a different size pitch but you should be able to adapt it to your needs.
