In 1993, in honor of Julia Child's 80th birthday, a lavish party was thrown. As broadcast to PBS viewers, it was both celebration and cooking instruction. That seems appropriate. The special aired during pledge week. I've edited out most of the appeals for financial help. I've also elected to edit out the 2 minutes of Dan Ackroyd impersonating Julia on SNL because I don't wish to infringe upon their copyright. Not all of the following actually attended the party but all of these individuals, along with some unidentified fans, contributed to this televised tribute: Diana Rigg, Jacques Pepin, Martin Yan, Art Buchwald, Alistair Cooke, John Kenneth Galbraith, Garrick Ohlsson and member of The Boston Symphony Orchestra, Mister Rogers, Jeff Smith, Jean Stapleton, Big Bird, David Ives (former WGBH president), Russell Morash (executive producer of Julia's cooking shows), Dorothy Cousins (Julia's younger sister), Rosie Manell (Julia's long-time friend), Alice Waters (chef/author), John Sedlar (chef), Marion Cunningham (Fannie Farmer cookbook author), Flo Braker (cookbook author), Marcella Hazan (cookbook author), Wolfgang Puck, Robert Mondavi and Margrit Biever (winemakers), Nancy Silverton and Mark Peale (chefs) and Judith Jones (editor, Knopf Publishing). Chefs who prepared courses for Julia and her guests and who provide instruction for anyone wishing to recreate the dishes at home are Patrick Healy, Jimmy Burke and Dawn Sieber, Jody Adams and Cindy Pawlcyn, Sandy D'Amato and Marcel Desaulniers.
