Southern Italy. Vito (Giordano De Plano) and Carla (Casta) have been separated for a few years. They loved each other very much before jealousy and violence destroyed their relationship. Now Vito has a new life and Carla has a new partner. The only bond remaining is their three children: Nicola, Rosa and little Mara.

One day, after joining the family for Mara's birthday dinner, Vito disappears without a trace. His disappearance sets in motion a police investigation, which delves into the past of everyone involved and uncovers many hidden secrets in the search for the truth. But, in these cases, does a single, clear, irrefutable truth really exist?
