Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna were the second choices for Dil Chahta Hai

The first choices for the film were Akshaye Khanna, Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek Bachchan. But the only person who said yes to the film was Akshaye. Akshaye was offered to play Aakash's character which was then played by Aamir and Aamir was offered Sid's character. But the tables turned and we saw Aamir romancing the pretty lady, Preity Zinta.
