BAWCS Shelter cat colony control and support

TODAY BAWCS set some traps on the farm which has a large number of cats. BAWCS had been contacted previously because the farm owners do not want to kill these cats, they actually love them and have advised they are great 'mouse catchers'.... BUT also recognise the numbers are getting out of control. Back story https://bit.ly/4dNqDkX The best option for these cats is to trap, desex and return to the property. This is a proven method of controlling populations where cats are being cared for, including being well fed. BAWCS doesn't usually set traps during the day however some of these cats are so relaxed on this property we thought we'd give it a try and surprisingly we managed to catch one who is now settling in at the Shelter awaiting for her other colony members to join her. Tonight we had an update from the farm owners saying more cats had been trapped - good work! Trapped cats are being cared for overnight and will be picked up by a BAWCS volunteer tomorrow in readiness for desexing at our Shelter.
